Today I Drink My Coffee From a Big Cup*

alotta java

And boy, do I need it. Since we have to wait until Cadence goes to sleep to get our Heroes fix, we've been going to bed a bit later than normal on work nights. Then last night, we were out with Cadence until past midnight, and today I had to drag my butt out of bed bright and early to pick up our CSA delivery. Ugh. Plus, our upstairs neighbor is having her hardwood floors buffed and sealed, so it's been pretty noisy around here, which means Cadence won't nap. Which means I can't nap.

Tim Lowly

So Ted & Tim Lowly and gang played a show @ the Beat Kitchen last night. It was an all ages show, which is why Cadence went with us. This is a photo of Tim right before he got abducted by aliens.

The lineup at last night's show was pretty different from the usual. Matt Ganong, the pianist, is in California playing for an opera. He'll be there for a few more weeks. Ethan, the violinist, was somewhere else. He WAS in South Korea visiting his brother, but I don't know if he's back yet. Anyhoo, the lovely and talented Rebekah Miller filled in the gaps.

What a cheeseball

I hear the show went well, but I wouldn't know as I was chasing Cadence around the block pretty much the whole time.

*The title of this post is a reference to an Ian Moore song, "New Day." Apparently, Ian likes his coffee from a big cup too.

Meet Me At "The Common"

i like my lattes a latte

There is a new coffee shop in the neighborhood. It's called The Common Cup, but the coffee ain't no common coffee; it's GOOD. Of course, I've only been there twice in the past 20 hours, so what do I know.

Yeah. I'm already on a first name basis with one of the managers, Chris.

We've been a Metropolis family for a while, so I was a little skeptical when I saw that they used Intelligentsia, but I have to say that the coffee was excellent. I still think Metropolis can't be beat for the tastiest coffee in the city, but for a neighborhood coffee shop, The Common Cup sure exceeds my expectations.

to cadence, going out for coffee=going out for cookie

They get their sweet stuff from Red Hen Bread which has some of the best baked goods in the city. Cadence ate that whole cookie almost by herself. We were lucky to get a bite or two.

In addition to excellent beverages and treats, The Common Cup provides a a place where the community can come together. They are already displaying art by local artists and plan on supporting local musicians as well. There is an overflow room that will be used for gatherings such as knitting circles and book groups. And their tip jar? They donate the contents to a different local non-profit every month.

I don't think we'll stop going to Metropolis, but it's nice to have a coffee shop we can walk to that we can depend on for a quality cup of joe.

...i took these photos at julius meinl coffeehouse on saturday after we picked up ted from work. they have really good coffee, but not as good as metropolis if you like a more robust flavor. still, it was a much needed coffeebreak for all of us. well, except for cadence. for her, it was a much needed GUGELHUPF break. their cakes and pastries are pretty much to die for.
